Ortiz is most well-known due to his participation in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) which as an former Light Heavyweight Champion from April 14, 2000 through September 26 2003, he defended the title from September 26, 2003 until September 14 the 14th of September, 2003. He was a pioneer in the sport along with fighters like Randy Couture or Chuck Liddell. Ortiz was the most coveted pay-per-view star in 2006 with his victories over Forrest Griffin and Liddell.
